Emma Barclay Therapy

Privacy policy

When you enter into Therapy or Supervision with me I will collect some information about you for the purposes of communication with you. I will ask you for your name, address, phone number, email address (if required), GP name (for patients only) and person who can be contacted on your behalf in an emergency (patients only). I also make paper notes of your Initial Consultation and ongoing therapy/supervision. I will ask you for this information directly when we enter into a therapy or supervision relationship.

Patients:

Your Initials, location, phone number and possibly email address will be stored in my personal computer, I-phone contacts list (password protected) and on my paper notes. I use this information for communication purposes. If I have to contact someone else on your behalf e.g. next of kin, I will usually ask for your permission to do this and will always let you know if this is to happen. The contents of your therapy with me will not be shared, however, if there is a risk to yourself or others, information relating to this risk will be shared with your GP or other statutory body as per the Confidentiality agreement for therapy. Emails and texts will be deleted from my devices when dealt with.

Supervisees:

Your name, phone number and email address will be stored in my laptop contacts list and on my paper notes. I use this information to communicate with you. I will not share any of your contact information or notes of supervision sessions without your prior consent.

I am required by my professional body to have a ‘Professional Will’, this contains a list of current patients and supervisees to enable my Professional Will partner to contact you in a situation whereby I am suddenly indisposed and unable to continue working with you. My Professional Will partner is a fully qualified and registered Psychotherapist who is bound by the same code of practice as I am in terms of confidentiality. My Professional Will partner will receive your name and contact number only, this list is regularly updated, and previous lists destroyed. If you do not wish your information to be shared for this purpose, please let me know.

When you end therapy or supervision I delete your contact details from my phone and email contacts list. I archive the paper notes for three years and keep these locked away in my home office. This is a requirement for Insurance and Professional Indemnity procedures. After this time I will destroy all paper records by burning or shredding.

If you wish to know more or wish to access the information that I hold please contact me via phone or email.
